About Me

BRIEF BACKGROUND AND VISION:

My name is Delcy Dedhiya and I have done my Masters in Clinical Child Psychology from Cambridge, UK. I have worked in Psychology departments in various hospitals, clinics, schools and organisations and have experience of working with clients dealing with parenting, relationship issues, depression, time management issues and loneliness among other issues.

I strive to create a nurturing environment to help clients heal, rebuild their lives and increase their resiliency. Maintaining complete confidentiality, I seek to create a safe space for clients to explore their thoughts, feelings, beliefs, and behaviours. I believe in holistic approach, that is, focussing on wellness rather than the illness.

My aim is to enhance the client’s ability to cope with the issue independently in the long run.

FAQs

These are some of the commonly asked questions related to mental health issues and the counselling process

Leaning on friends and family certainly can be helpful. They will try to help and be your number one support. However, a counsellor is professionally trained and experienced to help you explore and discuss your issues in an objective way. Therapy will help you cope with issues focusing entirely on you.

The success of therapy depends on various factors, one of the most important is continuity of sessions. Typically the sessions are scheduled on a weekly basis. With time, sessions may take place every couple of weeks, depending on your needs. The typical duration of a session is between 45-60 minutes. Remember, you will always have a busy schedule: work, family, events… It is preferable to come once every week considering that you might be assigned some exercises or practices to do.

Yes, you can. Therapy sessions can be conducted online over secure video platforms like Skype or Zoom. For a child below 6 years, in-person sessions are more effective. If need be, we can even work out a combination of online and offline sessions.

Psychiatrists are trained medical doctors, they can prescribe medications. Psychologists and counsellors have been trained to focus extensively on psychotherapy and treating emotional and mental issues in clients using behavioral intervention.

No, medication is not a substitute to therapy. A combination of medication and therapy can be the right course of action for some clients. However, it is well established that the long-term solution to mental health issues cannot be solved by medication alone. Instead of just treating the symptom, therapy addresses the underlying cause of distress and focusses on coping with issues independently.

What Clients Say
About Us

I started counselling in 2020 and have had an opportunity to serve a little over a hundred clients in my first two years itself.

I've been fortunate to work with most of these clients on multiple occasions and this is what they have to tell about me...

“At first, I was skeptical to go for therapy with Delcy as she had just started counselling. But glad I did. Mighty impressed with her patience and ability to listen and understand my side of the story. Would absolutely recommend everyone in need to go counsel with Psychologist Delcy.”

“I can personally vouch for Psychologist Delcy - she can help you with all your mental health issues. For me, the online as well as offline sessions worked equally fine. One quality that makes her a good psychologist is that she is a great listener and does so without judging you. Thank you for bringing out the best in me!”

“My experience of therapy from Delcy has been life changing. I was diagnosed with postpartum depression and was on medication. But without medication I would feel guilty and hopeless. So, I started taking sessions from Delcy and I finally felt like someone could understand me without judging me. Eventually I started feeling better, happier and could connect with my child. I would absolutely recommend her”

"I wasn’t sure if I needed therapy because I felt my problems were significantly small compared to what others go through. My colleague recommended me to try counselling from Delcy and I’m soo happy that I did! I’ve always felt lost and disconnected from my family and self. She helped me reconnect with myself. I’m a happier person today and my family sees the difference in me. I now look forward to spending time with my kids and family."

"Knowing something is bothering your child right from the beginning of school to the following days and weeks was really stressful. Me and my husband tried our best to have various communication style with our child. But we were not content with it and that was the time we opted for counseling.
I remeber when I met Child Psychologist Delcy and spoke with her it was so therapeutic not only for my daughter but also for me. I was just blown away and felt so content right from the 1st session of counselling. I would really like to thank you Delcy for giving a proper guidance and it really helped from then onwards."
